Currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Fiction and Creative Nonfiction at Northeastern Illinois University, Alicia Erian is the author of two books--a collection of short stories called The Brutal Language of Love, and the novel Towelhead, a coming-of-age story about a 13-year-old girl named Jasira, who is sent from her Euro-American mother's home in Syracuse, New York to live with her Lebanese father in Houston, Texas. It was adapted into a film starring Aaron Eckhart and directed by Alan Ball. Her third book, a memoir called The Dragon Lies Down, will be published in 2013.
